Experiment, Interdisziplinarität und Publikums­wirk­samkeit gelten als Markenzeichen des New Yorker Architekten Bernard Tschumi; in diesem Sinne ließe sich die 2008 erschienene Monografie als ein neues Genre verstehen, das herkömmliche Grenzen der Fach­literatur sprengt. Architektonischer Diskurs wird durch Details aus Tschumis Alltagsleben ersetzt, und auf Grundrisse oder ähnlich schwer verständ-liche Zeichnungen wird verzichtet, dafür sind Fotos eingestreut, auf denen Bernard Tschumi mit diver­-sen Prominenten zu sehen ist. Bei 327 Illustrationen auf 240 Seiten besteht keine Gefahr der Textlastigkeit; der Text selbst drängt sich als das Produkt eines creative-writing course auf, dessen flotte Satzproduktion Kontext, Struktur und Inhalt geschickt vermischt. Wie stellt man dann mit diesen Voraussetzungen überzeugend dar, dass Tschumi nicht nur der interessanteste zeitgenössische Architekt ist, sondern wichtigster Vertreter der kulturellen Avantgarde überhaupt?
