Bauwelt Einblick 18: Nickl & Partner Architekten

The Human Dimension – The 18th edition of Bauwelt Einblick, featuring Nickl & Partner:

How do you design healthcare and research buildings to be more than purely functional machines? For Nickl & Partner Architekten, the answer lies in placing people at the heart of design – patients, staff, and visitors alike.
The latest edition of Bauwelt Einblick, spanning nearly 50 pages, offers an in-depth look into the philosophy of this internationally active architecture firm, which operates across six locations worldwide. Their approach reimagines hospitals and laboratories not as sterile, utilitarian spaces, but as liveable, human-centred environments.
Opening with a candid conversation with founders Christine Nickl-Weller and Hans Nickl, the issue then gives voice to the firm’s next generation and includes reflections from its management board. Together, they explore the intellectual principles, ongoing transformation processes, and the firm’s commitment to creating adaptable, sustainable "Healing Architecture". Detailed project reports showcase three contemporary buildings that exemplify this ethos across an international context. A project timeline further illustrates how the integration of art into the construction process can become an essential component in architecture. The publication concludes with a look at the firm’s broader social commitments – from the work of its own foundation to its support for emerging talent through a student award.
An issue of Bauwelt Einblick dedicated to architecture designed for healing – functional, flexible, and fundamentally human. Read all of the details in the full issue, available as a free PDF download.
