Issue 09: Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin
The Neue Nationalgalerie designed by Mies van der Rohe has been extensively overhauled and restored by David Chipperfield Architects in recent years. With hand-over of the key on 29 April 2021, the architects along with many participants in the project have completed their task of returning to the owner the steel-glass building, a Modernist temple opened in 1968. The costly renovation is now complete. Since December 2020, “Bauwelt” has been allowed to accompany the architects up to completion. The aim is to understand their work on the complex building project and to reveal the key details of the renovation, together with an analysis, in the latest issue of “Bauwelt Einblick”.
