„Das Projekt begann Mitte der 90er ohne Hintergedanken, ich war nur neugierig, was in meiner Heimatstadt Detroit vor sich geht, Als es mehr und mehr Bilder wurden, nannte ich die Serie 100 Abandoned Houses. 100 schien viel zu sein, aber in der ganzen Stadt sind es inzwischen eher 12.000 verlassene Häuser. Ganze Nachbarschaften stehen fast komplett leer. Hier traf ich auf besorgte Bürger, Rudel streunender Hunde, meterhohe Berge von Toiletten und Häuser ohne Fassade, in denen sich der Müll sammelt.“ Kevin Bauman
